Iranian threats keep Israel on edge: Mission Network News

By Katey Hearth

Iran (MNN) — Israel remains on high alert following Iranian threats of retaliation. Iran blames Israel for assassinating a Hamas political leader in Tehran last week and promises revenge.

Transform Iran’s Lana Silk says, “Everyone is playing a game of chicken, I think, showing a display of strength and willingness to engage, but waiting to see who will make their move first.”

Iranian-backed militia in nearby countries are attacking Israel and Western forces with increased frequency. Hezbollah drone attacks wounded 19 people in northern Israel yesterday, while a suspected rocket attack on a military base in Iraq injured several U.S. personnel.

No groups have claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack, but Iranian-backed Iraqi militias recently resumed assaults on bases housing U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria.

Despite these strikes, U.S. state officials say the exact timing and details of Iran’s “big attack” remain unclear. “Iran is a legitimate threat, but Iran doesn’t want war on their turf,” Silk says.

Iran doesn’t have the capacity for that kind of war. They’ve been very happy to run this war by proxy.

Meanwhile, the focus inside Iran is on a different quandary. “There is talk of war; there is an anticipation that something might escalate, but they’ve got bigger, immediate problems at hand,” Silk says.

“They’re so concerned with getting food on their table that I’m not sure it (the potential war with Israel) is trickling down to them just yet.”

Transform Iran offers peace amid the turmoil. “Our hope is Jesus, and He is the person we endeavor to introduce Iranians to in every way we can,” Silk says.
