How Ramadan Presents a Unique Opportunity for Evangelism: KFAX-AM
KFAX-AM’s Life!Line with Craig Roberts speaks with Lana Silk of Transform Iran in this interview:
The below article is an abbreviated version of the conversation between Craig Roberts of KFAX-AM and Lana Silk of Transform Iran. The full interview is available in the audio above.
Ramadan: A Time for Christians to Pray for Muslims
As Ramadan begins, millions of Muslims across the globe will embark on a month-long journey of prayer and devotion. For many Christians, this time of heightened spiritual sensitivity offers a unique opportunity to pray for the Islamic world and, as Lana Silk, CEO of Transform Iran, reveals in this interview, to reach out to those seeking hope and truth.
Lana Silk, who was born and raised in Iran, has seen firsthand the impact of the gospel on Muslims in her home country. She believes this period of Ramadan, marked by fasting, prayer, and reflection, presents a powerful moment for the Church to lift up their Muslim neighbors in prayer. She explains:
Ramadan is a wonderful opportunity for us to be mindful of our Muslim neighbors and the Muslims in our community and to be prayerful for them. Muslims all around the world are going to be spending a month earnestly seeking to know Allah better. Let’s pray that they get to know the Living God.
Craig Roberts, host of Lifeline, added: “It is during these moments of heightened spiritual awareness that we, as Christians, must step in with prayer“.
How Christians can pray specifically for Muslims during Ramadan
A Growing Church in Iran Despite Oppression
Lana Silk’s own upbringing in a Christian home in Iran offers a unique perspective on the state of religious freedom in the country. Despite Iran being a theocratic, hardline Islamic nation, Silk points out that the Church is actually growing, albeit underground: “Before the Islamic Republic came into power in 1979, you could count three or four hundred Muslim-background believers in Iran. Now, we estimate at least one and a half million Christians in Iran today.“
The dramatic increase in the number of Christians is a result of both a deep spiritual hunger among the Iranian people and a disillusionment with the oppression of the government. Silk shares:
They’re disillusioned with Islam and are actively seeking an alternative … and they’re prepared to risk it.
Despite the extreme danger, where people risk imprisonment, torture, or even death for their faith, Lana explains that the Church is growing because Iranians are desperate for something more:
When people do encounter Jesus, it’s often extremely powerful. Their lives are turned upside down, and they are absolutely captivated by the love of Jesus in their lives.
The Role of Christian Prayer and Evangelism During Ramadan
As Ramadan provides an opening for heightened prayer and spiritual reflection, Lana encourages Christians worldwide to actively pray for the Muslim world.
We always say to people, if you want to get involved, learn about what’s happening. We send a newsletter once a month to give specifics that guide prayer… It’s really exciting when we can get in the weeds and say, ‘Let’s pray for this project’ or ‘Let’s pray for this challenge.’
Craig Roberts agreed, stressing that the power of prayer is crucial. “The fervent prayer of a righteous person availeth much” (James 5:16), he said. “Praying for the Iranian people during Ramadan is a way to partner with what God is doing in the country. We can help bring people to a place of spiritual openness where they can meet Jesus in a real way.”

Overcoming Barriers to Evangelism
Transform Iran’s digital outreach efforts aim to break through Iran’s strict censorship and provide spiritual resources to those seeking Christ. This includes the use of satellite TV, radio stations, and online platforms to share the Gospel in a country where it’s illegal to do so publicly.
Digital media and other tools are making it possible to evangelize in one of the most restricted places in the world.
Despite the great risk and the government crackdown, God’s Word continues to spread in ways that defy the restrictions. It’s a testament to the hunger and faith of the Iranian people. They want to find the truth, and no government can stop that.
How Christians Can Support the Ministry
Iranians feel isolated on the world scene because of the atrocities of their government. Let’s raise awareness that the government of Iran does not represent the people of Iran.
Silk highlights the importance of support for organizations like Transform Iran, as well as the significance of prayer, financial support, and raising awareness.
If the Lord is leading you, there’s no better place to invest your kingdom finances. What God is doing in Iran is remarkable. You will be blessed.
Craig Roberts echoed this call to action, encouraging listeners to be proactive in supporting the Iranian church. “This is a unique moment, a time of spiritual openness. While Muslims are turning to Allah in prayer, let’s pray that their hearts will be open to the truth of the gospel. Supporting ministries like Transform Iran is one way we can partner with God’s work in this country.”
During this time of intense spiritual seeking, the potential for change is great, and the gospel’s message of hope is more urgent than ever.
This Ramadan, let us stand in prayer and support for those seeking truth in the Islamic world.
