Iran Conflict 2025: Hope Amid Chaos

A Nation Reacts to War

In the days following the U.S. bombing of Iran, Lana Silk continued to provide updates from the ground. Speaking with CBN’s George Thomas, she offered emotional insight into how Iranians, worn down by 46 years of oppression, are responding.

While some feared what the escalation with Israel and the U.S. might bring, many more quietly celebrated the airstrikes, viewing them as signs that the regime’s power may be weakening.

A “Perestroika Moment” for Iran?

Silk compared the current public mood to the early days of Perestroika, when the Soviet Union began to crack from within.

This could be our moment, but it’s fragile. What fills the vacuum when the regime falls depends on what the Church and the international community prepare today.

While the regime tightens surveillance and control, including arrests and executions, ordinary Iranians continue to express discontent. The regime’s ideological rigidity is clashing with the public’s growing demand for freedom.

What Iranians Really Think

Silk estimates that less than 20% of Iranians support the current regime. A growing majority have abandoned Islam and desire political and spiritual freedom. Some oppose foreign intervention on nationalist grounds, but the overwhelming sentiment leans toward regime change.

The majority of Iranians are struggling under the brutal control of the current regime. They tried (and failed) to bring change in 2022. Now hope is rising that, perhaps with help from the International community, freedom may be in sight.

Strategic Targets Spark Hope

Among the most symbolic of the Israel airstrikes was the bombing of Evin Prison, a notorious detention center for Christian and political prisoners. To many Iranians, this attack sent a powerful message: perhaps the regime’s grip is finally breaking. However, Silk warns that it will not relinquish power peacefully due to its deeply rooted ideological and religious commitments.

The Roots of Anti-Western Ideology and Iran’s Spiritual Awakening

Silk reflects on Ayatollah Khomeini’s brutal ideological statements, such as prioritizing Islamic expansion over national survival. She recalls chilling childhood memories of being forced to chant “Death to America” as a child in school. Today, she says, Iranian youth are spiritually hungry and disillusioned with the lies they were raised on.

In the 2022 protests, demonstrators replaced the regime’s chant with their own defiant cry: “Death to the dictator.” In Iran, this is more than a protest – it’s an act of suicide. Many paid for it with their lives.

Despite the turmoil, Silk sees Iran as a nation in spiritual transition. The underground church is growing rapidly and becoming a beacon of hope and truth. Transform Iran is positioned to support this movement by sharing the gospel and serving communities in distress.

The conflict may be shaking Iran, but God is stirring hearts beneath the surface.

Christianity in Iran: The Fastest-Growing Underground Church

Even in the face of war, Christianity in Iran is growing faster than anywhere else in the world, but only in regions where people have access to Scripture in their own language.

“When people hear the Word of God in the language they think, feel, and dream in, it pierces the heart,” Silk says.

That’s why Transform Iran has been working tirelessly, with growing urgency, to:

Explore the many ways we’re preparing for true transformation in Iran

The Church Must Be Ready

We believe this could be the moment history turns, but the Church must act now.

“When freedom comes, the Church must be ready, or we risk a spiritual vacuum,” Silk warns.

Whether it’s Balochi, Gilaki, Luri or Laki – the Gospel must reach every ethnic group in Iran. Transform Iran is working urgently to get Scripture to those who’ve never had access, before the window opens fully.

How to Pray Strategically for Iran Today

  • Pray for the underground church to remain strong, courageous, but also for protection, comfort and peace at this time.
  • Pray for Iranians living in fear, especially those open to the gospel.
  • Intercede for Iran’s leaders, that they would encounter Jesus and repent.
  • Pray for a free, restored Iran, fulfilling its biblical call to bless the nations.
